Tarangire National Park
Opening Chapter · Arusha to Tarangire

The Elephant Park &
Ancient Baobabs

The Classic Safari opens at Tarangire — the elephant capital of the northern circuit. Tanzania Adventure collects from your Arusha hotel or Kilimanjaro International Airport in the morning. The 90-minute drive to Tarangire gate passes through Maasai steppe and the Rift Valley agricultural zone, arriving for a full afternoon game drive along the Tarangire River.

Day 2 is a full Tarangire day: a dawn drive targeting the elephant concentration and baobab photography, followed by an afternoon drive toward the Silale Swamp section. The dry-season (June–October) river drives regularly produce 100–200 elephants at a single water point — a density unavailable in the Serengeti or Ngorongoro.

Game drives are guided by Daniel Semu, Tanzania Adventure’s Tarangire specialist, who tracks wild dog pack locations and specific leopard territory within the park. On day 2, an optional night drive is available for clients wanting to extend the programme into the nocturnal wildlife hours.

Three Nights in the
World’s Greatest Park

Day 3: transfer from Tarangire through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area gate and along the Ndutu plains to the Serengeti — a half-day transfer that passes through some of the most dramatic landscapes in northern Tanzania. Game drives begin immediately after the Serengeti gate.

Days 4 and 5 are full Serengeti days, guided by James Kimaro, Tanzania Adventure’s head guide. James designs the programme around the current season: calving in the south (January–March), predator drives in the Seronera kopje zone (year-round), or migration positioning in the north (July–October).

Three nights in the Serengeti is the minimum for a genuinely comprehensive experience. Day 3 settles you in. Day 4 is guided by what Day 3 revealed. Day 5 targets the specific sightings or behaviours that the programme has been building toward. Optional balloon safari available on any morning.

Two Days on the
Crater Rim

Day 6: transfer from the Serengeti to the Ngorongoro rim — a three-hour drive with a stop at Olduvai Gorge museum en route. Arrival at the rim in the late afternoon, in time for the crater panorama at sunset.

Day 7: full crater floor day with Moses Lema, Tanzania Adventure’s crater specialist. Entry at first gate opening (7am). Lerai Forest section for rhino and leopard before 9am. Flamingo lake at 9am. Central lion and hyena territory from 9:30–11am. Optional rim break, then second descent for the golden-hour afternoon drive. The Ngorongoro crater day is almost always described as the highlight of the Classic Safari.

The Classic Safari concludes with an Arusha transfer on Day 8 morning — allowing afternoon international departures from Kilimanjaro Airport. For clients with Nairobi connections, Tanzania Adventure arranges the overland road transfer or charter flight as required.

Safari to Beach —
The Classic Combination

The Classic Safari + Zanzibar combination is Tanzania Adventure’s most booked honeymoon and anniversary programme. The transition from the Ngorongoro crater rim to the Stone Town waterfront via a one-hour scheduled flight is one of the most extraordinary sensory contrasts in travel.

Three nights in Zanzibar are arranged by Grace, Tanzania Adventure’s Zanzibar specialist. Stone Town cultural walk on arrival day. Mnemba Atoll snorkelling on day 2. Spice farm and sunset dhow cruise on day 3. The programme is adaptable to beach focus, diving focus, or cultural focus depending on client preferences.

Tanzania Adventure manages all flight logistics, accommodation, and activity bookings in Zanzibar as a seamless extension of the safari programme. A single booking, a single point of contact, a continuous journey.

Why Choose the Classic Safari

The Definitive Northern
Tanzania Programme

Why Three Parks

The Classic Safari combines three parks because each one fills a specific gap in the wildlife experience that the others leave open. Tarangire provides the elephant density and baobab visual identity unavailable in the other two. The Serengeti provides scale and the annual migration cycle. The Ngorongoro Crater provides reliability and the contained predator drama of the caldera ecosystem. Together they cover every major wildlife experience available in northern Tanzania.

Tanzania Adventure reviewed every two-park combination before settling on the three-park structure as the Classic programme. Two-park options — Serengeti plus Ngorongoro, or Serengeti plus Tarangire — are available as shorter and cheaper alternatives, but the seven-night three-park combination produces a wildlife diversity no two-destination programme can match.

The Guide Structure

Three parks means three specialists: Daniel Semu in Tarangire, James Kimaro in the Serengeti, and Moses Lema in Ngorongoro. Tanzania Adventure does not use a single generalist guide for the full Classic Safari circuit. Each specialist drives only their park — the depth of knowledge this provides is not replicable by a generalist who divides attention across all three. The guide handover is a briefing process: each specialist tells the next what the client has seen, what they most responded to, and what to look for in the next park.

Vehicle Standard

Every Classic Safari uses a private open-roof Land Cruiser 4WD with a maximum of six guests. No shared vehicle. No group join. The vehicle is configured for your group size and positioned for your specific priorities each day. Tanzania Adventure does not operate group-join Classic Safaris regardless of group size.

Accommodation

The Classic Safari includes comfortable tented camps and lodges in each park. Tanzania Adventure’s standard accommodation for the Classic programme is permanent tented camp in Tarangire and Serengeti (inside park boundaries for earliest gate access) and a rim lodge in Ngorongoro (for crater view and early descent). All accommodation is full board — all meals from arrival dinner to departure breakfast are included.

Accommodation upgrades to exclusive camps or luxury lodges are available at additional cost. Tanzania Adventure provides specific accommodation options at the enquiry stage based on availability and budget.

Booking

The Classic Safari requires a 30% deposit at booking confirmation. The balance is due 60 days before departure. Peak-season programmes (July–September) should be booked 6–12 months in advance. Tanzania Adventure holds accommodation options for 7 days after initial enquiry without deposit obligation, allowing time for travel insurance arrangements and flight bookings.

What’s Not Included

International flights. Tanzania visa ($50 e-visa). Travel insurance (strongly recommended). Gratuities for guides and camp staff (suggested $20–30 per guide per day). Personal shopping. Optional activities not in the programme (balloon safari, night drives, walking safari). Tanzania Adventure provides a full pre-departure cost breakdown so no figure is unexpected on arrival.
