Built from the Ground Up —
Never from an Office
David Mwanga grew up in Moshi, in the shadow of Kilimanjaro. His father was a mountain porter. He became a guide at 22 and worked the northern circuit for other operators for eight years before understanding the difference between what he was doing and what he wanted to do.
In 2005, with two Land Cruisers and a reputation for honesty built across eight years of other people’s safaris, he founded Tanzania Adventure. The founding principle was not a business plan. It was a belief: that a safari should change the traveller, not just entertain them.
Twenty years later, Tanzania Adventure has twenty people. It has never had twenty-one. We have been offered acquisitions, franchise arrangements, and investment capital. We have declined every one. The quality of what we deliver is a function of our size.
Every guide assigned by expertise — Moses for Ngorongoro, Emmanuel for Kilimanjaro, James for the Serengeti. Depth of knowledge, not general availability.
All Tanzania Adventure guides hold TALA Class A certification. Five years minimum field experience in the specific park before a guide is hired for it.
Private vehicles. Maximum six guests. No shared groups. The economic incentive is to run twelve or sixteen — we do not. Quality is a function of size.
We live here. We are not a European operator subcontracting to an African partner. Tanzania Adventure is Tanzanian — knowledge, staff, income, and investment all here.

Operational Conservation,
Not Ceremonial
Tanzania Adventure contributes 12% of every booking directly to community conservation programmes on the Serengeti border and the Tarangire buffer zone. The work is operational: anti-poaching patrol capacity, community wildlife education, and water point infrastructure.
The Serengeti border programme funds two conservancies employing Maasai community members as wildlife monitors. The patrol teams cover the western Serengeti boundary — the area most vulnerable to livestock encroachment and snare poaching. Clients who choose to visit the project see patrol schedules, snare removal records, and wildlife monitoring data — not a ceremony.

The case is not primarily about what we offer. It is about what we do not offer. We do not run shared group safaris. We do not use 12-person open-roof trucks. We do not send pre-written itineraries and wait for a deposit. We do not have a catalogue of set programmes with fixed prices and a booking engine.
Every Tanzania Adventure safari is designed individually — from the first enquiry through consultation to the specific programme built around your priorities, timeline, and budget. The person who designs your itinerary has been on the drive you are asking about. David Mwanga reviews every itinerary before it is sent to a client. Sarah Mushi manages logistics with the same attention to detail for the 4,700th client as for the first.
TALA Membership and Certifications
Tanzania Adventure is a member of TATO (Tanzania Association of Tour Operators). All guides are TALA Class A certified. The company operates under a valid Tourism License issued by the Tanzania Tourism Commission. All vehicles meet national road worthiness standards and carry Tanzania National Parks vehicle permits for every park in our operational area.
Insurance and Medical Cover
Tanzania Adventure is fully insured for public liability, vehicle operations, and client medical evacuation. Our Kilimanjaro operations carry emergency medical evacuation insurance for every climber and carry the emergency oxygen required by KINAPA regulations on every ascent. All vehicles carry a wilderness first aid kit and emergency satellite communication device.
Pricing Philosophy
Tanzania Adventure is not the cheapest option in the market. It is not designed to be. The pricing reflects private vehicles, maximum six guests, guides with fifteen-plus years of specific experience, and an operational quality that does not exist at the budget end of the Tanzania safari market. We are direct about this in every consultation. The clients who book with us do so because they have understood the trade-off and made a deliberate choice.
Booking Process
Every Tanzania Adventure booking begins with a consultation — a 20–30 minute call or WhatsApp conversation covering your dates, group, priorities, and budget. A custom itinerary is prepared within three to five working days. On acceptance, a 30% deposit confirms all permits, accommodation, and guide assignments. Balance is due 60 days before departure.
Our Arusha Office
Tanzania Adventure is headquartered in the Njiro area of Arusha, easily accessible from the Kilimanjaro International Airport road. Year-Round Operations
Tanzania Adventure operates every month of the year. Peak season runs from July through September when the Great Migration river crossings are at maximum intensity and the dry season brings wildlife to water sources across all northern parks. January and February deliver the calving season in the southern Serengeti — the best predator-prey interaction of the year. Every month has a specific programme rationale and no month is a dead season.
