The Umbwe Route is a challenging and direct route to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Known for its steep ascent and stunning scenery, it is often chosen by experienced climbers seeking a more adventurous and less crowded path.

Day 1: Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Camp

• Begin the trek at the Umbwe Gate (1,600 meters) and hike through the dense rainforest.
• Reach the Umbwe Camp (2,850 meters) where you’ll spend the night.

Day 2: Umbwe Camp to Barranco Camp

• Ascend through the steep and challenging terrain, characterized by giant vegetation.
• Merge with the Machame Route and continue to the Barranco Camp (3,950 meters) for overnight rest.

Day 3: Barranco Camp – Acclimatization day

• Spend the day at Barranco Camp for acclimatization.
• Optional short hikes can be taken to explore the area and aid in adjusting to the altitude.

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

• Traverse the famous Barranco Wall and proceed through the alpine desert landscape.
• Reach the Karanga Camp (4,035 meters) for overnight rest.

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

• Trek through the barren landscape to the Barafu Camp (4,680 meters), the base for the summit attempt.
• Rest and prepare for the final ascent to Uhuru Peak.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

• Begin the summit attempt during the early hours of the morning, reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters) at sunrise.
• Descend to the Mweka Camp (3,100 meters) for overnight rest.

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

• Descend through the lush rainforest to the Mweka Gate.
• Receive certificates of achievement and celebrate the successful climb.
